Debian Linux on VMWare
  1. Start by Selecting Virtual Machines >> Install WMWare Tools
  2. Open a Terminal Window
    (Press “Enter” to Execute Commands)
  3. Installing the Required gcc & Kernel Headers:
    After you follow to Find and Install needed Kernel’s Headers.
    Find Headers:
    su 

    If Got “User is Not in Sudoers file” then Look: Solution

    apt-get install gcc linux-headers-$(uname -r)

    In Case you Cannot Find/Install the Kernel Headers Look:

    Debian Cannot Install Headers

    Before starting to install check than kernel’s headers are in the right location:

    ls /usr/src/linux-headers-$(uname -r)

    This should give you an input like this below:

    arch include Makefile Module.symvers scripts

    Now your system should be Ready for VMware Tools installation.

  4. Load VMware Tools
    cp /media/cdrom0/VMwareTools*.tar.gz /tmp
    cd /tmp
    tar xvzf VMwareTools*.tar.gz

  5. VMWare Tools Installation:
    • Access the Target Directory
      cd /tmp/vmware*
    • Execute Installation Script
      ./vmware-install.pl

      Follow to Accept All the Default Proposed Settings

      Eventually Answer “Yes” to Enable Load New Kernel Modules at Boot.
