Hello Debian User! This Tutorial Shows You Step-by-step How-to Switch from Gnome/Gnome3 to Xfce Desktop on Debian 9 Stretch GNU/Linux 32/64bit.

To Login into the Xfce Desktop we will Install and Make Use of the slim Display Manager.

Linux Xfce Launcher
  1. Installing the Xfce Desktop

    su 

    If Got “User is Not in Sudoers file” then Look: Solution

    aptitude install xfce4
  2. Installing and Switching to Slim Display Manager

    aptitude install slim

    Choose the slim Display Manager.

    aptitude install rcconf
    rcconf

    Disable the gnome or gnome3 Display Managers

  4. Setup Slim for Running a Desktop on Debian:

    su <username>
    nano ~/.xinitrc

    exec startxfce4
