Installing rvm and ruby on Freebsd 8

April 21st, 2011 by Regaz

Prequisites are Git, Autoconf, Automake.

  1. If you need to install those packages you can proceed like beneath:
(If you need to update or build your ports tree -> Ports tree updating)
    # cd /usr/ports/devel/git
    # make install clean
    # cd /usr/ports/devel/autoconf
    # make install clean
    # cd /usr/ports/devel/automake
    # make install clean
  2. Now you can proceed to install rvm:
    # bash -c "bash <( curl -L ) --version '1.3.0'"

Next to use rvm you need to set path:

    # source '/usr/local/lib/rvm'

Check in terminal output if the path correspond... Next you can begin to use rvm.

    # rvm package install readline
    # rvm package install iconv
    # rvm install 1.9.2 --with-iconv-dir=$rvm_path/usr
    # rvm --default use 1.9.2

It should work like a charm :)
