GNU/Linux Oracle 11g Listener in Not Up or Database Service is Not Registered With It

Hi! This Article Come from a frequent Issue on Oracle 11g Database Instance Creation on GNU/Linux Desktops.

This Situation occurs when you Choose to Create a New Database after the Oracle 11g Database Software only Setup.

Finally, the Error is manifests itself with the Message: “Listener in not up or database service is not egistered with it”.

  1. Open a Terminal Window

  2. Check if your Listener is Up

    su oracle
    cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin

    Look here to Find the Path to the Oracle Database:

    Oracle 11g Database Path Set-Up
lsnrctl status
If the Lislener is Down you will find in Output “No Listener”.
Then to Start the Listener:
  • lsnrctl start 

  • The Name is Not Needed if your listener name is the Default: Listener.
  • If your Listener was Simply Down you Then you Can Re-Try to Set-Up your Database.

  • If Instead, you Found that your Listener was Already Start-Up Then you will Need to Change the Listener Parameters Setting Correctly the Listener Parameters File Before to Set-Up the Database Again.
