Howto Install Latest Thuderbird 24+ X86_64 on Linux Debian 6 Squeeze KDE4 64-bit Easy Visual-Guide

This Short Guide Simply Shows How to Install the Latest Thunderbird 68 x8664 for Debian 6 Squeeze Kde4 Amd64 Desktop.
The Same Procedure with only some Little changes will Work also on Debian 5 Lenny.
The Guide Includes the Basic Screenshots of Process to Make the Visualization Easier.

Thunderbird on Debian
  1. Download Latest Thunderbird for Linux.

    Thunderbird 68 x8664 tar.bz2
  2. Double-Click on Archive and Extract Into /tmp
    Unarchiving Latest Thunderbird on KDE4 Linux Desktop

  3. Open a Terminal Window
    (Press “Enter” to Execute Commands)

    Applications >> System >> Terminal.

  4. Relocate Thunderbird:
    • Login as the SuperUser

      su 

      If Got “User is Not in Sudoers file” then see: How to Enable sudo

    • Move Thunderbird to Location

      sudo chown -R root:root /tmp/thunderbird && mv /tmp/thunderbird /opt/

      Possibly Make a SymLink.

      ln -fs /opt/thunderbird/thunderbird /usr/bin/thunderbird
    • After to Start Thunderbird from Terminal

      thunderbird

  5. Create a Thunderbird Launcher for Quick&Easy Starting.
