The Tutorial shows you How to Install and Getting-Started with the Latest Eclipse 2023-03 R IDE for Java JEE 32-bit on Linux Sabayon 11 i386 Mate Desktop.

If you Prefer there is the Possibility to Install the Eclipse 2023-03 R IDE Platform on Gentoo Based Distros also with the java-overlay Procedure but I Find that’s Simpler and Clearer Provide Directly to Download and Installation of the Eclipse JEE Release for Linux.

The contents give Focus only to the Essential Instructions and Commands so to make the Tut easier to understand ;)

Sabayon Eclipse

  1. Download Eclipse 2023-03 R i586 for JEE:

  • Right-Click on Archive > Open with Archive Manager

    Then Extract into /tmp.

  • Open Terminal Window
    (Press “Enter” to Execute Commands)

  • Relocating Eclipse.

    sudo chown -R root:root /tmp/eclipse && mv /tmp/eclipse /opt/

  • Starting Eclipse from Terminal.

    Making a Symlink

    ln -s /opt/eclipse/eclipse /usr/local/bin/eclipse

    After you can Start Eclipse JEE from Terminal simply with:

    eclipse
