The Android Studio is the Official IDE for Android Application Development, based on IntelliJ IDEA.

  1. Open a Command Line Console Terminal Window
    (Press “Enter” to Execute Commands)

  3. Double-Click on Android Archive
    Extract into /tmp
    Or from Shell:

    unzip -d /tmp/ ~/Downloads/android-studio*.zip

  5. Relocate Android Studio IDE
    First Set the SuperUser as holder:

    su -c "chown -R root:root /tmp/android-studio"

    Then Switch contents with:

    su -c "mv /tmp/android-studio /opt"
  6. Make a Symlink for Easy Launching

    sudo /opt/android-studio/bin/ /usr/local/bin/android-studio

    Then to Run Android Studio from Terminal simply:

    android studio

    A Launcher is automatically created over first start so then you’ll be able to Run it from the App Menu.
