Install Solr 6 on Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Linux - Featured
  1. Download Apache Solr 6 Server for Linux:

    Get Solr 6.x .tgz for Linux
  2. Open a Shell Session
    Ctrl+Alt+t on Desktop
    (Press “Enter” to Execute Commands)

    Install Solr 6 on Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Linux - Open Terminal
  3. Extract Apache Solr Archive:

    cd $HOME/Downloads
    tar xvzf ./solr*.tgz -C /tmp/
    rm solr*.tgz
  4. Relocate Apache Solr Search Server:

    sudo su -c "mv /tmp/solr* /opt/"

    cd /opt/solr*
    bin/solr start -e cloud -noprompt
