The Same Procedure with only some Little changes will Work also on Other OpenSuse Releases.

How to Install Thunderbird Latest on OpenSuse 12
  1. Download Thunderbird 68 64bit

    Thunderbird 68 x8664 tar.bz2
  2. Double-Click on Archive and Extract it Into the /tmp Directory.

  3. Open Terminal Window
    (Press “Enter” to Execute Commands)

  4. Relocate Thunderbird:

    • Login as the SuperUser

      If Got “User is Not in Sudoers file” then see: How to Enable sudo

    • Move Thunderbird to Location

      sudo chown -R root:root /tmp/thunderbird && mv /tmp/thunderbird /opt/

      Eventually Make a SymLink

      ln -fs /opt/thunderbird/thunderbird /usr/bin/thunderbird
    • After to Start Thunderbird from Terminal
