This Easy Visual-Guide shows you Step-by-Step How to Install KDE Plasma 4 Desktop on Top of a FreeBSD 9.x 64-bit Unix.

During Installation by sysinstall Use the Space-Bar and Arrows But Not the Enter Key to Make Selections on Menu.

How to Install KDE4 Desktop on FreeBSD 9.0 Amd64 Unix
  1. Download FreeBSD 9.x Amd64

    Unix FreeBSD 9.x amd64.iso
  2. Boot with FreeBSD 9.x DVD

  3. Install the nano Editor and then Start the Sysinstall Configuration:
    Install FreeBSD 9 KDE 4 Install Nano Editor and Sysinstall Configuration
    The Two Command to Execute on Shell are:
    pkg_add -v -r nano

    After the nano has been Installed then Start Sysinstall:

    sysinstall

    The Sysinstall Text Configuration Tool will Show Up.

  4. Select Configure:
    Install FreeBSD 9 KDE 4 Select Configure
  5. Select Packages:
    Install FreeBSD 9 KDE 4 Select Packages
  6. Select CD/DVD:
    Install FreeBSD 9 KDE 4 Packages Installation Media
    The Other Possibilities are Not Investigated here But Remains an Available Possibility…
  7. Select the X11 Group:
    Install FreeBSD 9 KDE 4 Select X11 Packages Group
  8. Select the KDE 4 Package:
    Install FreeBSD 9 KDE 4 Select KDE 4 Group
  9. Select the Xorg Package:
    Install FreeBSD 9 KDE 4 Select KDE 4 Group
    Latest Click on Enter to Finalize.
  10. Just Confirm your Choice:
    Install FreeBSD 9 KDE 4 Confirm Packages Installation

    Now Wait Until Package Installations Achievement.

  11. Click the Tab Key and Enter to Exit:

  12. Reboot to Activate the Nano Editor:

    On Shell Execute:
    reboot
  13. Edit the Configuration File /etc/rc.conf to Enable KDE Manager
    After Rebooting on Shell Execute:
    nano /etc/rc.conf

    Insert inside the rc.conf:
    dbus_enable="YES"
    hald_enable="YES"
    local_startup="${local_startup} /usr/local/kde4/etc/rc.d"
    kdm4_enable="YES"
  14. Final Reboot to Start-Up your Magically Powered KDE 4 FreeBSD 9 Desktop:
