2. Installing Waydroid
Now to Install Waydroid on Alpine Linux play:
sudo apk add waydroid
This will automatically pull in required dependencies like
lxc,binderfs, andpython3. -
3. Loading Kernel Modules
Next, load the binder and ashmem kernel modules required for Waydroid to function:
sudo modprobe binder_linux; sudo modprobe ashmem_linux
If your kernel doesn’t include them, ensure you are using a kernel flavor that provides binderfs (e.g.,
linux-ltsorlinux-virt). -
4. Initializing Waydroid
Then initialize the Android image environment:
sudo waydroid init
This will download and configure the Android system image within the container.

5. Starting Waydroid Service
Enable and start the Waydroid container service:
sudo rc-service waydroid-container start
You can also enable it at boot with:
sudo rc-update add waydroid-container

6. Launching Waydroid UI
Finally, launch the full Android graphical interface:
waydroid show-full-ui
You can now run Android apps natively on Alpine Linux with full desktop integration.

7. Stopping Waydroid
When you’re done, stop the container service:
sudo rc-service waydroid-container stop
Great! You’ve successfully installed and launched Waydroid on Alpine Linux using the community repository and can now enjoy Android apps directly on your system.
